Glossary:

Piscine (Pi) Molitor Patel : a young Indian boy who was named after a swimming pool. He has three religions-- Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. As a young boy when he was questioned as to why he has three religions all he could say because he wanted to love God. Pi lose his family after the sinking of the ship that they were in. He survived an agonizing 227 days in the Pacific Ocean along with a 450 pound Bengal Tiger.

Richard Parker: a 450lb. Bengal Tiger, named after the hunter that found him. Richard Parker was Pi's nemesis, but can also be called Pi's companion, he was  the reason that Pi survived. Richard Parker, in the end turned out to be Pi, he was a part of Pi's personality, in a sense Richard Parker was Pi's "inner tiger"-- he had the courage to kill the chef, and eat him, just as a tiger would do.

Ravi: Pi's  older brother who used to teased him a lot.

Mr. Patel: Pi's father. He was the one who decided to move to Canada because of the politics in India.

Mrs. Patel: Pi's mother. As the story finishes, readers would find out that she is also Orange Juice, the orangutan who was murdered by the hyena.

Father Martin: the priest who thought Pi a great deal about Christianity, which made Pi to also be a Christian.

Mr. Kumar: Pi's biology teacher
 
Mr. Kumar: a man of faith who has the same name as Pi's biology teacher.
 
Mr. Okamoto: the Japanese representative who came to investigate the sinking of the ship.
 
Mr. Chiba: he accompanied Mr. Okamoto to Mexico to question Pi about the sinking of the ship.
 
Hyena(cook): the hyena in the end turned out to be the carnivorous French cook, who killed the Zebra and Orange Juice (Pi's mother).
 
Zebra: the wounded Zebra, in the end turned out to be a wounded sailor who was murdered by the hyena (cook)
 
Francis Adirubasamy: A family friend. Also known as Mamaji.
 
Pondicherry: a city in India where Pi and his family used to live. They owned a zoo there.
 
Tsimtsum: the ship that sank in the Pacific, four days after it left Manila.
